Welcome back to the blog for another awesome engagement session. We love shooting New York City engagement sessions. The city always has such texture and character and always makes for the best photos. This time we hit up Stuyvesant Town in Manhattan and then moved on to the gorgeous skyline views of Gantry Plaza in Long Island City.
When you are a member of the bridal party the rehearsal dinner is where all the wedding work starts for you. Juliet and Steve should have been focused on their walk down the aisle together at their friends’ wedding, but instead they were fixated on each other. Juliet has an amazing smile and an energy that pulled Steve in immediately and he wanted to get to know her better. Luckily, he was the groomsman chosen to walk her down the aisle, which gave them a chance to get to know each other and the attraction was instant. He walked her down the aisle and by the first dance they were sharing their first kiss, because as they say, “when you know you just know” . The whirlwind of the wedding day had brought them to each other which was exactly where they belonged.
They went on their first date shortly after the wedding and it cemented the feelings they had when they met. Most men will show up to a date with flowers but how many will show up with tools and hang shelves? That is how Steve started their first date – by hanging shelves – because he is always looking for ways to be helpful and handy. That is one of the things that Juliet loves most about him. The date didn’t stop with the shelf install he then took Juliet to the Empire State Building followed by dinner and drinks. It was on that date that they came to realize exactly how perfect they are for each other.
From their first meeting they just knew that they were meant to be together and they start talking about their wedding. Shortly after they decided on a date in June of 2013, they start making the typical venue appointments to see the places. Steve didn’t want Juliet keeping the appointments until they were engaged so they agreed to postpone their meetings until they were officially engaged. Once Juliet agreed Steve then gave her the surprise proposal she had always dreamed of. After a whirlwind six week courtship they were engaged and we can’t wait to shoot their wedding at The Mansion Inn of Saratoga next June.
We traveled to NYC for their engagement session and started with a picnic in the park. Juliet and Steve wanted a session that really reflected them as a couple so they brought along a newspaper to fit their wedding them of black, white and red all over (Steve’s wedding theme idea), coffee, and the rest of the makings for a great weekend picnic. We shot in Stuyvesant Town, a great little area on Manhattan where Juliet and Steve will soon call home. We then headed to Gantry Plaza in Long Island City, which I can now say has probably the best sunset and skyline view in the entire city to finish off their session. I love that this session really showed off how passionate they are as a couple and we are so excited to be a part of their wedding day. Without further ado, here are some of our favorites from their engagement photos!
A little picnic in Stuy Town – granola, fresh berries, coffee, and a newspaper!
These two are too cute!
One word says it all.
Beautiful girl. Perfect light.
The wedding will be black, white, and red all over – newspaper themed! This is the shot we used for their custom designed Save the Dates!
Such an awesome black and white.
Steve giving us his best GQ model pose:
After that it was time to head to Long Island City, Queens. We got some killer light getting off the subway!
A little sunset magic with the Empire State Building making a cameo.
Off to Gantry Plaza. This is seriously our new favorite place. AWESOME sunset, and the best skyline view, ever.
This next series is our favorite.
Who says we are serious all the time at our e-sessions. Gotta have some fun too!
The Facebook teaser. Make sure to like our page to see their wedding photos first!
You just can’t do a New York City engagement session without some shots that include the greatest skyline in the world.
Steve is a Long Island boy.
A little variation on our signature ring shot.
A little black and white skyline magic.
With the leg pop. Awesomeness.
Like I said, best skyline view in the city.
One thing I really love about New York City engagement sessions – Manhattan is magical when the lights start to come on.
Juliet says the Chrysler building is her favorite, and it always reminds her of Sex and the City. We made sure we got a few pics with it in the background.
After dusk. Pure NYC magic. I love how the Empire State building is lit in Red, White, and Blue for this 4th of July blog post!
This one came in a close second for the Facebook teaser. Definite favorite.
Romance under a streetlight.
We love a good New York City engagement session, and this one was no exception. Beautiful locations, a great looking couple madly in love, it really makes our job a piece of cake. We are totally excited for the Saratoga Springs wedding next year!
